MEDICARE AWARE Community Awareness

The Independent Physicians Alliance will be hosting a community event for Senior citizens called MEDICARE AWARE. KFSM, the City Wire, and the SW TIMES will be promoting this event, along with the Mayor of Fort Smith. This date of this event will be in February, but the date has not been set. We will host this at the University of Arkansas-Fort Smith and Humana will be presenting the Medicare presentation for the citizens.

This is NOT a sales opportunity for Humana as they are not legally allowed to promote their company or products, but they have volunteered to speak at this event so that seniors may better understand their Medicare benefits, the Medicare Advantage programs, and their Part D prescription benefits.

We are excited to be able to be of service to our senior citizens and feel that any help that we might be on helping them to make the correct choices and in understanding their benefits will be an asset to them as they try to maximize every penny on their limited income budget.

American Physicians Insurance-API

In an effort to provide physicians with savings on their mal-practice insurance and education on risk management that will help them to prevent needless lawsuits and settlements, API has become a Joint Affiliate with the IPA in order that we might work together in providing a cheaper and better solution for mal-practice coverage.

API will be offering physicians a discounted rate to physicians that are members of the IPA, therefore allowing physicians to continue carrying quality coverage, but saving on their bottom line. API is rated A- in the state of Arkansas and has a dedicated Customer Service base that is genuine and immediate.

Thank you API for all that you do for our Independent Physicians.

Public Option

Some members of the Independent Physicians Alliance spoke with Senator Blanch Lincoln on Wednesday, November 18, 2009 to express our concerns about a PUBLIC OPTION for healthcare. Healthcare Reform is necessary in America, however there are many opinions on how to obtain this goal. One option that we believe most healthcare providers oppose is that we do not need a PUBLIC OPTION that could potentially damage our existing industry infrastructure by penalizing employers, by government taking on the responsibility of managing such a large-scale endeavor, by possibly creating a negative economic effect with a Tsunami of Blue Cross/UHC/Aetna reprocussions, etc..

The conversation went very well and Senator Lincoln assured us that she completely opposes any form of Public Option as a part of any reform package. She did mention many great benefits of the reform bills that she is supporting such as 1)no pre-existing denials to patients, 2)portable insurance when leaving an employer, 3)ability to shop for insurance outside of the state lines, and 4)more preventative coverage for patients.

We will keep you updated on the developments of the Healthcare Reform bills and et you know Senator Lincoln's position on this issue and possible options that might be better suited for positive reform.

ARDOCSCARE will be providing a free webinar on this subject to clarify the proposals of healthcare reform and the pros and cons that it could bring. Please register for this FREE Webinar at help@physicianalliance.org for February 23, 2010 at 2:00pm.

University of Arkansas Fort Smith

We are pleased to announce our new relationship wtih the Sports Medicine Department of the University of Arkansas - Fort Smith. UAFS has recently become Division II athletic program and are taking steps in making their program the most equipped sports medicine program available. Under the direction of Jeff McGee, UAFS has created an impressive collaboration of healthcare providers through the IPA. In his words in a recent post to students and UAFS staff, "One of the constant goals of the University of Arkansas-Fort Smith Sports Medicine department is to provide the best possible healthcare for each and every student athlete on campus. This ideal has driven us to develop the University of Arkansas Sports Medicine Partnership of Care, a powerful network that will offer student athletes outstanding medical treatment that is second to none in NCAA athletics. The partnership provides inclusion for UAFS athletics in the Independent Physicians Alliance. The IPA is a powerful networking group with members in the fields of both medicine and general business throughout the state of Arkansas."

We will be networking with the UAFS for marketing, scholarships, promotional campaigns, and some IPA members will be wearing UAFS shirts in order to help promote UAFS events in the future. In turn, UAFS is promoting the IPA during their NCAA games and through various publications.

We often fail to realize the significance of a local college and the economical and educational value that they add to our community and state. Let's do all that we can to support the success of the UAFS Athletic program and wish them luck in the upcoming Division II endeavors.
